Photoboo support

Answers for running Photoboo at your events, and a direct line to us when you need a hand.

Contact us

Email[email protected]

We reply within 24 hours. On Jewish holidays, we reply within 24 hours after the holiday ends.

To help us answer faster, tell us your device model, its iPadOS or iOS version, the Photoboo version (Settings › General › iPad Storage › Photoboo) and what happened. A screenshot helps.

We will never ask for your Apple Account password or your payment details.

Quick start

  1. Install Photoboo. Download it from the App Store. It is designed for iPad and also runs on iPhone, with iPadOS or iOS 17 or later.
  2. Start your free trial. Open the app, pick a plan and tap Start Free Trial. The trial includes 10 AI credits.
  3. Create your event. In the Event step, enter the event name and date. Then set up the Welcome Screen and Design & Template steps.
  4. Choose your AI styles. In the AI Styles step, open the AI Style Store and turn on the styles you want guests to see.
  5. Print and share. In the Output step, turn on the Print Assistant to print (you need the free Smart Server running on a Mac or Windows computer) and Online Gallery (QR code) to share. Then tap Tap to Start.

Frequently asked questions

Subscription and billing

How does the free trial work?

New subscribers get a free trial (currently 1 month) that includes 10 AI credits. You are not charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel up to 24 hours before it ends.

Apple allows one free trial per Apple Account (Apple ID). Reinstalling the app does not start a new one.

Photoboo has monthly and yearly plans. Prices appear in your local currency in the app and on the App Store.

Have a promo code? Tap I have a promo code on the subscription screen. Promo codes unlock the subscription only. They do not include AI credits.

How do I cancel or change my subscription?

In Photoboo, tap My Subscription › Manage Subscription, then Manage or Cancel Subscription. You can also go to Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Photoboo on your iPad.

Your subscription stays active until the end of the period you paid for. After that, booth mode pauses until you renew. Your AI credits stay saved.

How do I get a refund?

Apple processes every App Store payment, so refunds are requested from Apple, not from us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account and choose the purchase.

If Apple refunds a credit pack, the credits from that pack are removed from your balance.

I got a new iPad or reinstalled the app. How do I get my subscription back?

Sign in with the same Apple Account, tap My Subscription › Manage Subscription and then Restore Purchases at the bottom of the screen.

Your subscription works on up to two devices (iPad or iPhone) signed in with that Apple Account. You do not need to buy it again for the second device.

From version 4.3, your AI credits come back too. They are kept with your subscription's Apple Account, so they appear on their own once the subscription is active on the device.

AI credits

What is an AI credit?

AI credits pay for AI style photos. Classic photos, strips and prints do not use credits.

The cost per photo depends on the quality you choose:

  • Lite 1K: ½ credit
  • Standard 1K: 1 credit
  • Detail 2K: 1½ credits

Credits are bought separately from the subscription, in packs of 100, 500 or 1,000, under My Subscription › Buy Credits. They do not expire.

Your free trial includes 10 credits, and every paid subscription period adds 10 more.

Printing

How do I print?

Photoboo prints only through the free Photoboo Smart Server, so you need it to print. In the app, its switch is called Print Assistant. Install it on a Mac or Windows computer connected to your printer:

Put the computer and the iPad on the same Wi-Fi network. In the app's Output step, turn on Print Assistant and choose your computer from the list.

Printing uses your local network, so it keeps working even when the venue has no internet.

Keep the Smart Server up to date. Some newer print sizes need its latest version.

Online gallery

How does the online gallery work?

In the Output step, create or sign in to your Gallery account with an email and password. Then turn on Online Gallery (QR code).

Photos upload on their own. Guests scan the event's QR code to view, download and share their photos.

To manage your galleries, tap Open Gallery Panel or go to fotos.photoboophotobooth.com/admin and sign in with the same account.

To delete your account and all of its galleries, go to Gallery account › Delete account… in the app. This cannot be undone.

Can I protect a gallery with a password or PIN?

Yes. In the Gallery Panel, open the gallery and go to the Privacy tab. You can:

  • Choose Who can view: Public, Password or Link only.
  • Set a Download PIN of 6 to 8 digits.
  • Allow or block downloads of the original files with the Allow original downloads option.

Phone Booth

Where are Phone Booth recordings saved?

Audio and video messages stay on the iPad. Nothing is uploaded.

You can find them in the Files app › On My iPad › Photoboo › Recados, with one folder per event. In Photoboo's Phone Booth gallery you can also tap Open in Files, Share files or Export .zip.

To copy them to a computer over USB, connect the iPad and open Finder on a Mac, or the Apple Devices app on Windows. Then look under Files › Photoboo.

Copy your recordings before you delete the app. Deleting Photoboo also deletes them.

Troubleshooting

The camera screen is black or says "Camera Access Denied"

Go to Settings › Photoboo and turn on Camera, then reopen the app.

If you use an external camera, Photoboo supports Canon EOS R cameras connected by USB. For the steadiest results at an event, we recommend the iPad's built-in camera.

The iPad can't find the Smart Server or the printer
  • Make sure the Smart Server is open on the computer and the printer is connected to it.
  • Put the iPad and the computer on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest and hotel networks often block devices from seeing each other. A simple router of your own works, even without internet.
  • On the iPad, go to Settings › Photoboo and turn on Local Network.
  • If your computer's firewall asks about the Smart Server, allow it.
  • In the Output step, tap Manual Configuration and enter the computer's address as IP:Port (for example 192.168.1.5:8080).
An AI photo failed. Was I charged?

No. When an AI photo can't be created, the credits for it are returned to your balance automatically. The guest's original photo is kept in its place.

AI photos need an internet connection. If the AI safety filter blocks an image, try another photo or style.

Photos aren't reaching the online gallery
  • Check that you are signed in under Gallery account. The app shows a message when photos are waiting for you to sign in.
  • Check the internet connection, then tap Test gallery connection in the Output step.
  • If you see "Storage full", free up space in the Gallery Panel.

Photos that are waiting upload on their own once the connection is back.

How do I pause the booth during an event?

First, set an Operator passcode in the Event step.

To pause, press and hold the top-left corner of the welcome screen for 2 seconds (top-right in Hebrew and Arabic). Enter the passcode and choose the notice guests will see.

To resume, press and hold the lock in the corner of the screen and enter the passcode again.
